The WiDaF is a diploma certifying the level of professional German awarded by the Franco-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
This German diploma is valid for life. However, if you’re looking for a job, it’s advisable to retake it regularly (every two years, for example).
What is the test used for?
The WiDaF is aimed at non-German speakers, and is designed to assess German language skills in the context of a professional activity. It meets the needs of companies and the job market by assessing a candidate’s ability to communicate in German in the workplace.
The WiDaF assesses a candidate’s written and oral comprehension using examples drawn from professional situations.
What does the test involve?
WiDaF takes the form of a multiple-choice questionnaire comprising 150 questions. It is divided into three parts:
- Vocabulary (50 questions): assesses mastery of corporate vocabulary and synonyms.
- Grammar and written comprehension (50 questions): candidates are assessed on their ability to understand texts relating to the world of work (press articles, business letters, advertisements, etc.).
- Oral comprehension (50 questions): candidates are assessed on their comprehension of short, simple messages (business dialogues, interviews or telephone conversations, etc.).

The WiDaF test lasts 2h30:
- Vocabulary: 45 min
- Grammar and reading comprehension: 60 min
- Listening comprehension: 45 min
What level can the WiDaF test assess?
The WiDaF test is aimed at non-German-speaking candidates from level A2 to C2 on the CEFR scale.
What grading system does WiDaF use?
The WiDaF score is calculated on the basis of a scale ranging from 30 to 990 points, in line with the CEFR scale.
