Also<\/strong>: to stop bothering someone; to cease an activity. 
Ex: Lay off me! I\u2019m trying to lay off coffee.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Layoffs in the news<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

February has seen 2000+ layoffs<\/strong> in digital publishing (Buzzfeed, Vice) as Facebook swallows advertising revenue. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many talented journalists will have to lay off<\/strong>investigating and writing for now. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fortunately, everyone on social media is a journalist now. BTW, did you hear that the Earth was flat?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Things to do after the layoff<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Lay low<\/strong>: Be discrete. People might not notice you\u2019re unemployed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lay an egg<\/strong> (like a hen<\/a>). Learning new skills is essential for re-employment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Get laid<\/strong>: Have sex. Better than being screwed by Facebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In layman\u2019s terms<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Husband 1: Honey, I just got laid<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Husband 2: What?! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Husband 1: I mean I just got laid off<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Husband 2: WHAT?! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Husband 1: I mean I just laid an egg<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Husband 2: Honey, please lay off<\/strong> the drugs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
