Oil<\/strong> is a viscous liquid, usually extracted from plants or minerals. Oils are used as lubricants, fuels, perfumes, foods, etc.<\/p>\n

A spill<\/strong> is the release or escape<\/strong> of a liquid from a container.<\/p>\n

An Oil Spill<\/strong> is the (accidental) release of liquid petroleum into the environment.<\/p>\n

Examples:<\/h3>\n

BP\/Deepwater Horizon, USA (2010), Montara, Australia (2009), Erika, France (1999), Exxon Valdez, USA (1989), plus many, many more sadly.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t cry over spilled milk<\/strong> is a common English expression, meaning there\u2019s no point regretting what happened in the past. You can cry over spilled oil, though.<\/p>\n

Oil and water, unlike Starsky and Hutch, fish and chips, gym and glish, are NOT a good mix.<\/p>\n

Oil can be virgin, extra virgin, pure or refined, just like people!<\/p>\n

\u2018Olive Oyl\u2019 is the name of Popeye\u2019s wife in the American cartoon \u2018Popeye\u2019.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t confuse oil with grease<\/strong> (the animal fat, not the John Travolta musical).<\/p>\n

Ironically, the highest per capita consumption of olive oil occurs in Greece<\/strong> (the country, not the animal fat). Hopefully they can still afford all that oil!<\/p>\n
