Everyone has a philosophy for the ideal meeting: \u201cKeep them short\u201d, \u201cEverybody must stand,\u201d etc. Those may work for some, but as you can imagine, I have my own ways of running a meeting. Without further ado, I present you my 10 rules to make sure that meetings are tolerable (to me).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Nobody should be late but me.<\/li><li>Don\u2019t feel obliged to let someone finish their sentence.<\/li><li>Feel free to zone out periodically, but demand that someone catch you up when you start paying attention again.<\/li><li>On video calls, I don\u2019t need to be on mute \u2013 that\u2019s for other people.<\/li><li>Can someone bring me an ashtray please?<\/li><li>2 to 3 hour meetings without a break? I\u2019m fine with it, especially if you aren\u2019t.<\/li><li>\u201cSorry, I wasn\u2019t listening\u201d is a totally legitimate thing (for me) to say.<\/li><li>You have another commitment just after this? Let me improvise a long speech then.<\/li><li>I can justify anything, including your disagreement with me.<\/li><li>Someone please write a summary of this meeting that I won\u2019t read.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Everyone and their mother has ideas to run better meetings. I suppose that some of these ideas can co-exist, but I\u2019m quite partial to my own.
